Party Dress

Saturday, February 26, 2011

Hi Everyone, I hope you all are enjoying the last week of February! Can you believe we're almost into the third month of 2011? I am baffled by how quickly my life is flying by. Alright, enough with the epiphanies.  Moving on.... to my new favorite dress! I shuffle through favorites very quickly, as you will see through the duration of this blog. But, as of right now this little lace number is my absolute favorite thing in my closet! The dress is a little short for someone with a booty as big as mine, but with tights (or leggings) it remains tasteful. I have worn this dress over and over. I love that I can wear it to work with a blazer (as pictured) or I can wear it out with ridiculously bright red lipstick (which I have done as well). This whole outfit only put me out 37 big ones.

Clashes of black and white

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

I have always been a fan of mixed patterns. On the other hand, I'm a pretty play-it-safe kinda gal, so you won't ever catch me in leopard and floral at the same time. With this outfit I have taken a safer route to mixing patterns. Combining patterns can be tricky, not only is there a lot going on geometrically but you have to make sure your colors don't clash. When I incorporate multiple patterns, I like to keep it all in the same color story. For example, with this look I paired a black and white stripe shirt with a black and white houndstooth skirt and kept all my accessories basic. I think my version of pattern mixing is just the right combo to still be fashion forward, yet work appropriate. In case you don't already know I am a marketer for a Radiology company so I meet with doctors and attorneys everyday. I sometimes struggle with the urge to be edgy and still be taken seriously. Do any of you struggle with the obligation of professional attire verses the desire for an exciting wardrobe? For this lovely ensamble I only paid $49.49!!

Faux Fur Love

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Today I am presenting you with one of my favorite outfits. I wear this get-up routinely because it is so comfy and still trendy. Notice, most of my favorite outfits are associated with comfort. I know this outfit is not on the cusp of a trend but rather at the end of it, but it IS still in style and I still love it. The faux fur vest featured lead me on a exhausting hunt, I went to at least 10 stores across 5 zip codes. I get ideas in my head of what I want and then I go searching for it. My mom thinks I'm crazy, she says "most people just go to the store to see what they have, not you, you already know exactly what you want." She thinks I should just design the stuff I want instead of spending days (some times weeks) looking for a ridiculous idea in my brain. Well, mom, I'd love to!! Who wants to be my financial backer? Anyways, I digress, This vest was on my mind for a few weeks before I found it at, none other than, Forever 21.  I was ecstatic! It was in my price point AND the last one they had!! I hope you like what I have paired my fur vest with! This look cost me $80.79 plus tax.

It's a day of lovin & I need some bloglovin

Monday, February 14, 2011

Dear Loyal Readers,

I really need some followers on Bloglovin. If you are unaware of what Bloglovin is, it is a site where one is able to "follow" blogs of thier choosing. As blogs are updated, Bloglovin posts the most recent blogs in a "live feed" like manner. This site is very similar to Facebook's "news feed" page. This site is very usuer friendly and is such a time saver. For me I love the fact that I can see what my favorite bloggers are posting without visiting each and everyone of thier sites. Bloglovin is not just for bloggers, you do not have to have a blog to join.

Now, to my request, I have zero Bloglovin followers (extremely sad face). I would be so appreciative you would find me on Bloglovin and follow me!! http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/2215336/my-thrifty-chic. It really requires zero commitment and you will be updated when I have something new to say.

Thank you  all for listening, have an amazing day!!

Love,

Tori Thompson

Brown, Gray and Satin All Over

Friday, February 11, 2011

Hi Folks!! I want to share with you one of my most favorite outfits!! First of all, I am a sucker for a belted empire dress. This style dress is very flattering for a figure like mine, it not only accentuates my waist, but it adds a little emphasis to the girls (I need all the emphasis I can get). A little back story to this dress in particular, I found it at a consignment shop and my husband hated it. He said it looked home made, to which I responded, "precisely". This dress has no tags in it, which leads me to believe it may be a one of a kind, or maybe just a student project, either way it is one of my favorite pieces. This entire look cost me $ 46.29 plus tax.

Caution: Pop Art

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Happy Hump Day Everyone! Today I decided to have a little fun with my photos and give you a little diversity. I love fine art, but one of my favorite eras in art history is when Pop Art arose. It was such a radical time in our nation and really stretched the boundaries of what art is, and what it can be. When I took these styling photos I had no intention of turning them into pop art, but I think they work extremely well with the theme. This outfit only cost me about twenty bucks!! I hope these photos bring you as much joy as they do for me!! Tell me which one is your favorite?

Feeling a little risque today

Sunday, February 6, 2011

Hi Everyone!! I hope you are enjoying your weekend! I am very appreciative of the sunshine in CA being that the rest of the country is covered in snow and ice. I have a slightly risque post for you today. This is an outfit that I assembled a few months ago but I am just getting around to taking some snap shots of it. Please note, I don't actually wear the top with just my bra showing, but I figured for a fashion shoot I could take some creative liberties :) I wear all these items together and as separates. I love this outfit because depending on the way I style it, I can wear it to work or out to dinner. This entire outfit only cost me just under $30.00!!
