Beach Chic

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

I have been seeing a lot of blog post revolving around sand and the ocean these days and it has made me long for a beach trip. I am embarrassed to say I do not see the ocean very frequently despite the fact that I only live 10 miles away. I love the beach but I hate the 405 fwy, and unfortunately you have to cross it to get there. However it is in my to-do-list for 2011 to visit the ocean more.  Hopefully this is the first of many beach posts. These photos were taken in Playa Del Rey, which is just a few towns south of Santa Monica. Playa is a great beach because there is rarely a crowd and quite a bit of free parking (at least during the week). I am so exited to finally show off my new white pants too!! This little number rang in just under $55. I would love to hear about your beach adventures, please share!!

Stylish Blogger Award

Monday, March 28, 2011

Hi everyone!! I feel like such a terrible blogger lately; I haven't posted in over a week.... eeeks! In my defense I went on a vacation to Scottsdale, AZ for some spring training baseball. A weird fact about me, I love baseball. My husband got me into it when we met, and I love baseball over all other sports (Probably because it is the only one I understand). It was such great weather in AZ, and they have such a great selection of crappy food to eat! (Waffle House and Dunkin' Donuts were the most frequented). However, now that I am back in action I feel bad that I have not posted a new blog entry. I do not have a new outfit post, but I have a fun little exercise if you wanna join in!!

Kylee of 2Anchor sent me some love with a "Stylish Blogger Award"!! Thank you so much Kylee for stopping by and appreciating my 'lil hobby! I really love blogging and I love the people who share the same passions as I do! You guys are all amazing and I feel so blessed to be in the club (or at least I think I'm in the club) :D

The Rules for the blogger award are as follows:
  •  Thank and link back to the person that gave you this award.
  •  Share 7 things about yourself.
  •  Award 7 recently discovered great bloggers. Contact and tell them.

7 Things About Me...

1. I have been going to yard/garage sales with my mom since I was born. Now I have just made the transition to Thrift stores and I don't have to wait until Saturday to shop :)

2.  I have wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 10, I'm still hanging onto the dream!

3. Everyone on my father's side of the family is an artist, I am the only one who is interested in fashion.

4. I opted for a degree in Fashion Marketing because I thought it would be more marketable than Fashion Design. I am pretty sure I made the right decision, even though I don't work in fashion currently.

5. I am planning on pursuing costume design at some point in my life, I think I could be good at it.

6. I have a ridiculously hard time spending over $30 on one single item, including shoes.

7.  As a child my mother instilled a rule in me, "You have to love it, or you can't have it." To this day I live by this motto and if I do not love something I will not allow myself to buy it. I have turned my Husband and friends onto this and for the most part, they abide by it :) It's a good rule and alleviates most buyers remorse.

And now to pass it off...

Since I started blogging (about three months ago), I have found some really great people, who have really great blogs!  If you haven't been to their sites, please check them out!

I'm so sorry, have been lagging on a new blog post this week. I have lots of things happening with my work lately and my husband has had two big job interviews. Fingers crossed he get one of them!! With all of that going on, blogging has been pushed to the side. However, it's a beautiful Monday and I have a great outfit to share :) The outfit featured today is one of my go-to work ensembles. I am able to put put this outfit together without even thinking about it (which is great when I over sleep).  I love the color combination in the plaid blouse and it works so well with that awesome Betsy Johnson belt. The cost of this look came in at just under $50!!

City meets Country

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Hello Ya'll, today I wanted to share a little of my roots with you. I grew up in Central California, and for those of you who don't know, it is not near the beach :) Central California is full of agriculture and livestock. I come from a family of Artists and Cowboys... seriously my Father is a commercial artist during the week and a cowboy on the weekend. Despite my up bringing I knew my fate did not lie in the backwoods of California. My outfit today is an example of how I mesh my family culture with my own personal style. My Husband and I took these photos while walking down Hollywood blvd, which in itself is an adventure. My outfit today cost $19.47. My skill of thrift is definitely rooted in my heritage!!

Color Blocking

Friday, March 11, 2011

If you haven't noticed yet, I'm not a model. So posing for blog photos is quite a challenge at times. My husband and I have been shooting pictures the last few days and it is really hard to remember all your angles and try to visualize how things will look on film. So please bear with my while I try to utilize all my America's Next Top Model knowledge ;) Luckily thus far we haven't killed each other and the pictures are coming out pretty good for beginners. Let me know what you think, or of you have any tips!! What I have featured below is my version of color blocking. This outfit is WAY out of my realm of comfort, but I decided I could use a little color these days. I never thought I would be wearing red-orange, royal blue and banana yellow all in the same outfit. Well....cheers to new ideas!! This lovely little number cost under $25.00!!

Hollywoodland

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Hello Everyone! In today's post you will be witnessing the first styling pictures taken by my loving Husband. My father-in-law is the one who has taken all my blog photos up until now. However, he lives quite a distance away from my husband and I so, we set out to try and achieve professional quality photos ourselves. The location of these photos were taken on our way to a dog park at the base of the Hollywood sign. In this post I really wanted to show off my new Cynthia Rowley handbag, I am pretty excited about it! My entire look cost around $48.00!

Spring 2011 Fashion Must Haves

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Happy hump day from sunny Southern California. I'm not bragging to all of you stuck in colder climates, but with all this sun it makes me think of spring in a much more immediate fashion. As the weather warms I realize my closet is lacking some of the things I consider necessary for this season!

1. Coral Colored Hot Pants: I don't even know if they make them in the hue I am imagining, but I if I didn't invision things a that were not available for retail, then who would I be? A few years ago I was totally against colored jeans, but somewhere along the line a switch flipped in my brain. So if you see any of these mysterious hot pants, please let me know!!

2. Stone Embellished Cuff: I love chunky jewelry and I am so excited for all the new jewelry trends happening right now. I Love the bangle cuff shown in the picture and I'm pretty sure I'm going to make a DIY project out of it!!

3. White Blazer: I am the first to admit white is not for everyone, especially white pants, which is why I am opting for a white blazer. I have tried on a plethora of white jeans lately and I am not who the designers had in mind when fashioning them. I will quitely surrenender to the fact that my body type is not suited for light colored jeans and I will joyfully find a white blazer to fulfill my needs!!

4. Denim Button Down: Again, this was not on my top 100 list of things I felt my closet was lack 3 months ago, but recently I decided I need one. I have seen some amazing styling techniques with the denim blouses and it's time I joined the trend!!

5. Floral Dress: As you may have noticed I am not a big pattern or color person. Don't get me wrong I LOVE COLOR, I just don't like color on me per say. I am trying to branch out this season and bring some color and pattern into my wardrobe. I think a floral dress would be a great way to break myself into pattern and color all in one swoop!!

6. Colorful Cocktail Rings: You may not be able to tell by my recent posts, but I am quite the jewelry whore. A few years ago I was so obsessed with chandelier earrings, I had over 100 pairs. My current obsession... cocktail rings!  I really love the bright colored enamel ring shown above. I am bidding on 6 cocktail rings on eBay as we speak, so this is definitely a must have??
