Are bustiers back?

In fashion, there is an theory called the pendulum swing. Have you heard of it? It's basically the idea, that garments move slowly from one extreme to the next. For example, we have seen the biggest bell bottom jeans, move to the skinniest of skinny jeans. Hems do the same thing, they start dragging the floor and move their way up until we see butt cheeks and then slowly move back the other direction. It's not a very complicated idea and it's much easier to predict fashion when trends actually have some science behind them.

What does this have to do with a bustier? This bra-like top became popular in the 70's and in the past 4 decades we've seen the length of shirts drop almost to our knees, and now the swing is up and bustiers are BACK!

I have to admit, when I saw all the cropped jersey tops pop up last summer, I was not very enthused. When I think of bare midriffs, I think teeny boppers. However, with the rebirth of the more structured bustier I am much more open to the idea. I like the retro feel of most of them, and especially when they are paired with a high waisted skirt or pant! I know this trend is not for everyone, but what do you think? Would you wear this trend?

Random Thought: When I hear the word Bustier, I immediately think of the movie Selena. Do you remember the scene where she fights with her dad about wearing the blinged out "bra?"  Well, I do and that will forever be the first thing I associate with this garment :D
