{my} Harajuku Girl

Although Japanese fashion, isn't necessarily my style, I appreciate their eccentric style! In America we often use the word "harajuku" as an adjective to describe style, however we would be wrong. Harajuku is a noun, it's a popular place where young people gather. The individuals who hang out at the Harajuku are very fashion forward and it's where street style thrives.

Japanese style if often described as a miss mash of colors, patterns and textures. Although the Japanese may conform in many other societal ways, fashion is where they stand out. I am not an expert on Japanese culture or style, but it has always intrigued me. I have an immense respect for all cultures and their fashion!

My outfit today, is my version of Japanese street style. Yes, it is very tamed down in comparison, but that's why it's my version! I found these crazy wacky shoes at the thrift store and I had to buy them! I immediately found this adorable floral print dress to go with them! If I was going for true Japanese style, I would have put on a camo jacket polka dot tights and my hello kitty sunglasses... but maybe another time ;)

What do you think of my Harajuku inspired look? Is it a decent homage to Japanese street style? Does it help that I wore this out to sushi? This look cost: $20.00

 {dress}
brand: Gilly Hicks Sydney
purchase price: $7.99
purchased from: The Goodwill
suggested retail: $59.50

 {bow bangle}
brand: unknown
purchase price: $2
purchased from: eBay
suggested retail: unknown

I kept my accessories to a minimum. I figured with the multiple prints, I didn't need any other elements.

Loved the pose so much, had to do it twice :D
I really just couldn't stop showing off these shoes!

 {wedges}
brand: Xiongzi
purchase price: $7.99
purchased from: The Goodwill
suggested retail: unknown

Aren't these ridiculous? Those "flowers" on top are plush, like a stuffed animal! I tried to google the brand, but it's so Japanese that I can't even find it on eBay. These have to be the wackiest shoes I own, I love it!

I also wore this outfit to my girlfriends bridal shower a couple weeks ago and I almost got molested for it. It is seriously the biggest compliment when my girlfriends want my clothes, I think the people you know, are sometimes your biggest critics ;)

  4. Love the dress! it's gorgeous on you! I'm not 100% sold on the shoes, but mostly because 1) wedges and I just don't agree all that often, and 2) while there's a part of me that would LOVE LOVE LOVE them as heels, there's a very practical part of me that says 'now, when would you wear them??' I love shoes and love a lot of way out there styles, but I'm afraid to wear them o.O

    all of it looks fab on you tho! :)
