Project Style: National Style Off

Saturday, October 13, 2012

Eeeks... today is the day I have been working towards for three and a half months. Today, I submitted my final video to be judged for Project Style. I, along with 14 other finalists, were given $200 to create another outfit to display why we are the next trendsetter. In addition, we had to make a video to showcase our look and to submit to the judges. The winner of this final round will win a trip to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week! I have dreamt of going to Fashion Week ever since I was a little girl, it would seriously be a make-a-wish moment for me. When I first heard about this contest, they lured everyone in with the $1,000 prize for each Local winner, but I didn't come for the money, I came for the trip to New York Fashion Week. Don't get me wrong, cash is always great, but I want to win it all! I would not describe myself as a competitive person, but when I engage in competition, I play for keeps. I still plan on winning the national leg of this contest to, but I've done my job, it's up to the judges now.

Style is not mathmatic, there is no one right way to do it. I hope that the judges are able to see my talent and my passion for style. I have spent my entire life working towards a career in fashion, and this opportunity could be my big break. If nothing else, it has been an amazing experience.

Take a look at the outfit I put together for this challenge.

Total Outfit Cost: $191.92

When I was first beginning putting this look together, I knew I wanted to incorporate a bold color. I love green, and an Emerald skirt felt like the perfect piece to build an outfit around.

Then I found this sheer blouse from Macy's. Using the different textures of this top and skirt, the pairing of the two creates more interest. I just love the polka dot detail on the blouse.

If you know me, you know I love me some accessories! I love to use accessories to spice up an outfit. So often, I shop based on versatility; I hate buying something I can't remix later. That being said, a lot of my outfits are made from basics and I use accessories for that added flair.

So, for this outfit, I went a little outside my comfort zone with this leopard spiked cross-body bag. I love leopard and spikes don't get me wrong, but this bag has more attitude than I'm used to; I think, that is why I was drawn to it too. I love experimenting with new styles.

Although the rest of my jewelry I kept simple, I did decide to wear a statement cuff bracelet. The cuff is rather large, but I feel like it really does add something extra to my otherwise bare arms.

This is probably more than you bargained for right here :D Sorry to throw my butt in your face, but you have got to see this zipper detail. I mean seriously, how awesome is this zipper? I am a huge fan of exposed zippers and I love that it runs the length of the skirt.

I also brought in a little more leopard print with the belt. I love the metallic detail and I love that the leopard prints I mixed are not too matchy-matchy.

I went with a neutral wedge because I didn't want too many conflicting components. I felt sophisticated with a bit of edge was the way to go.

So now that you've seen what I put together, what do you think? Is it enough to get me to Fashion Week?? I sure hope so!
