Spring Must haves 2013

Seeing as how the ground hog didn't see his shadow on February second, Spring is just around the corner.  As I mentioned in my Spring Trend Guide and my Color Trend Guide a few weeks ago, there are a ton of new trends to try this season. Some of them are risky, some are recycled from last season and some of them are just plain stupid, like the "letterman jacket" trend. I am pretty adventurous and I will try out most new trends, that is as long as they work for my body type and my personality. Above I have put together the top 10 trends I endorse and what I will be adding to my wardrobe in 2013.

1. Pointed Flats: Yes, in 2007 I used to wear those "cockroach killers" as my dad would call them. I sported the pointiest of heels back then, but eventually grew away from them. I know they say pointed toes make your legs look longer and slimmer, but I'm not ready for super pointed heels to come back. I do however enjoy these mildly pointed flats that have come back around. They're just the right amount of round and point. I also love the multiple styles they're in too. I've seen patterned, strapped and various textures.

2. Cropped Pants: I use the term "cropped" very loosely. I don't mean capri pants, I mean pants with a slightly shorter hem; just above the ankle actually.  Have a few pairs already, but I will probably pick up a few new ones as well. These are great for a short gal like myself, most jeans are too long for my short gams.

3. Boxy Bags: Small boxy bags have been on trend reports for a few seasons in a row, but really how can you go wrong? I am into smaller handbags lately and I have been ditching my over-sized hobo satchels.

4. Yellow: Pretty much anything that can be considered yellow in hue, is on trend. It's color most women are probably going to think twice before wearing because it is so loud. Yellow is one of those colors you have to fully commit to and be prepared to stand out. I don't wear a lot of yellow, but it does work well with my olive skin tone. I will be seeking out more lemon shaded garments this spring, just to freshen things up.

5. Ruffles: Ruffles are the epitome of feminine and they go perfectly with all the sherbert hues this season. I love ruffles, but I have to be careful which part of my body I wear them on. For example, I try to keep ruffles off my hips, because they add extra girth, and I don't need that. I don't mind ruffles on my bodice, because that's an area that could use some enhancing.

6. Printed Sheath Dresses: Printed and structured dresses are all the rage right now. According to trend reports, the more pattern mixing the better. But according to my report, I think you should limit only 2 patterns per outfit, 3 if you're really clever. Sheath dresses are pretty much universally flattering, so add some more structure to your wardrobe this season.

7. Transparent: I am getting pretty giddy about this trend, and it's only because I called my shot a few months ago. I began to see a few pieces of clear jewelry pop up and I forecasted all by myself, that clear accessories would be making a comeback! I have seen a plethora of transparent details on shoes and bags and it's only a matter of time before there is an influx of clear jewelry. I just love when I call trends before the magazines do ;).

8. Black and White: I'm pretty sure I have covered this trend multiple times in the past couple months, but I still don't actually own anything black and white! I need to stock up asap!

9. Laser Cut Outs: This is one of those trends that I will watch before I buy. I like lace, but I'm not sure how I am going to be able to incorporate a ton of this trend into my style. I really love those booties above, but I'd love them more in black. We'll see what kind of laser cut outs garments I find in the near future.

10. Chunky Heels: Thank you Jeffrey Campbell for this trend! JC has been churning out chunky heels since before it was cool! The heels featured above are from BooHoo.com and are only a fraction of what JC's cost. I love chunky heels because I feel like I have more stability than with stilettos.
