Is Orange is the new Red?

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

I have to be honest, I struggled to write this post. It has been on the docket for a couple weeks, but every time I sit down to write it, I cannot find the right thing to say. You see, I have a feeling. It's very common for me to get these feelings, where I think something is going to be the next big thing. For example, I started to notice a growing trend in iridescent and clear accessories, so I wrote a post and didn't gain much interest in it. Then 4 months later I open up People Style Watch and what do I see? An entire page dedicated to the clear and iridescent trend. I know when I am on to something, but sometimes seeing something before other people do, does not gain the exposure one would hope to. So that's where I am with this post. I know orange is a growing trend! I see it across the board, we've seen it on runways and in retailers, but no one is talking about it. I can't find anything recent on the web about orange being the next big trend, but I feel it. Does that make sense? I struggle as a blogger with a loyal following to not report on something that I can't back up, but hopefully you all trust my opinion.

So, I am here to ask you, do you think orange is the new red? Coral was such a bit hit last year, so it's only natural that orange take the stage next. We've kind of eased our way into a warmer shade of red, and I think orange is going to be huge in the coming months! You're going to see colors called "poppy," "persimmon," "tangerine," "carrot" and many more, mark my word! By my fashion-science calculations, using my trend forecasting color wheel, we are rounding out a "High Chroma" phase, and I think orange is as high chroma as you can get!

It may not be written about in fashion magazines until August, but it's going to happen. I have already began integrating some orange into my life, with a great wet 'n wild lipstick (shown here), and a couple new sun dresses. I know that most people have an aversion to orange, so try red-orange to ease yourself into it. Orange is going to be one of those shades that you will be able to wear through autumn too! I urge you all to incorporate a little more orange into your life.

I really like burnt orange rather than bright orange. But, for me that goes for most colors. I tend to gravitate towards softer rather than brighter.

I am not sure if it's the new red, but I love all color so it doesn't matter what's "on trend" at the moment. I just wear what I like!

Actually, Cora from Vintage or Tacky (a huge beauty guru on youtube) just posted a video for an orange look, and about 58 seconds in, you can hear her say that her friend who is going to school for fashion merchandising said orange is going to be a huge trend this spring. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5MRLlFs1UY

So there you have some proof to back it up now. :D

I LOVE orange right now. I can't NOT. But I don't think it'll ever replace a stunning red dress or a perfect, vintage red lip.

I think orange is fun for summer! Although I do prefer coral or red. I think those colors just look better on me.

I love orange. I have been kind of obsessed with it lately. It so fun, yet I always associate it with Hermes so it can also be a bit sophisticated.
