Is Orange is the new Red?

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

I have to be honest, I struggled to write this post. It has been on the docket for a couple weeks, but every time I sit down to write it, I cannot find the right thing to say. You see, I have a feeling. It's very common for me to get these feelings, where I think something is going to be the next big thing. For example, I started to notice a growing trend in iridescent and clear accessories, so I wrote a post and didn't gain much interest in it. Then 4 months later I open up People Style Watch and what do I see? An entire page dedicated to the clear and iridescent trend. I know when I am on to something, but sometimes seeing something before other people do, does not gain the exposure one would hope to. So that's where I am with this post. I know orange is a growing trend! I see it across the board, we've seen it on runways and in retailers, but no one is talking about it. I can't find anything recent on the web about orange being the next big trend, but I feel it. Does that make sense? I struggle as a blogger with a loyal following to not report on something that I can't back up, but hopefully you all trust my opinion.

So, I am here to ask you, do you think orange is the new red? Coral was such a bit hit last year, so it's only natural that orange take the stage next. We've kind of eased our way into a warmer shade of red, and I think orange is going to be huge in the coming months! You're going to see colors called "poppy," "persimmon," "tangerine," "carrot" and many more, mark my word! By my fashion-science calculations, using my trend forecasting color wheel, we are rounding out a "High Chroma" phase, and I think orange is as high chroma as you can get!

It may not be written about in fashion magazines until August, but it's going to happen. I have already began integrating some orange into my life, with a great wet 'n wild lipstick (shown here), and a couple new sun dresses. I know that most people have an aversion to orange, so try red-orange to ease yourself into it. Orange is going to be one of those shades that you will be able to wear through autumn too! I urge you all to incorporate a little more orange into your life.
