The Fashionistas Morning Check List

Sunday, September 29, 2013

I posted my "Fake It Fashionista" segment last week and this is its continuation. I realized a long time ago that I have a formula or a check list if you will for getting dressed every morning. I do these things without even thinking about it anymore... I mean, a cocktail ring is almost as important as which underwear I wear. When someone compliments me on how I've put an outfit together, it's common for me to say "oh, I just threw this on." They often think I am trying to be modest, but it's the truth! I put very little thought into my daily outfits, and since this little check list is second nature to me, I don't even realize how "put together" I actually appear. I wanted to create a cheat sheet for those who struggle putting a look together every morning. I can't be in your closet with you making sure you match and your proportions are right, but hopefully you've got that covered and this check list will add a little finesse to your look!

Note: I do not always follow this order! Sometimes I build an outfit around a shirt, or a pair of shoes, or even a necklace. I usually pick one piece I really want to wear and then find complimentary garments.

I read once about the "rule of three," in styling. A fellow blogger (who's name escapes me), discussed how she doesn't feel fully put together unless she's wearing at least three garments. That's not to say that you should put on 12 things and think you look stylish.. you'll look closer to a hobo at that point. But it makes sense if you think about it. Jeans and a top, seem plain, but if you throw on a blazer, you are much more dapper. A plain sundress is cute, but with a silk scarf and sun hat, you've become Jackie O.  There are always exceptions to the rule, so don't kill yourself trying to figure out what three things to wear, it should just be a quiet thought in the back of your mind. You shouldn't over do it on the accessories, use a minimum of two and a maximum of four. "Accessories" include hats, sunglasses, scarves and jewelry. Don't adorn yourself in all your jewels, you will just look like a rich cat lady.

I hope this quick little check list will make your mornings easier!
